When you work with me, you’re working with a real human.
I’ve got two design degrees, over 10 years of design experience, and have spent countless hours honing my skills, which means I like putting my creative muscles to work.
I don’t use AI chatbots or generative AI for any part of my process. Not for research, not for strategy, not for ideation, not for design, not for anything.
Everything I create, from first concept to final deliverables, is 100% made by me.
What’s my stance on using generative AI or chatbots?
AI and machine learning aren’t new and I recognize that they can be powerful tools.
That said, LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude are causing harm to us and the planet, which goes directly against my values and everything I stand for.
I’ve built my business around the core belief that genuine connection is our greatest asset, and that isn’t something we can outsource to a chatbot.
Our messy, quirky, wonderfully weird brains are an integral part of how we show up and connect with others. It’s, quite literally, what makes us human.
That’s something AI can never replicate or replace.
I also believe in transparency and doing better once you know better.
I’ve tried using AI in the past, and I found it to be extremely unhelpful, requiring more of my time and energy to try and train it to do what I wanted than if I had just done the task myself. It became clear to me that the outcome wasn’t ease or efficiency, but reliance.
I also quickly learned about the devastating impacts that AI usage and data centers have on us and our environment, which solidified my decision to abstain from using chatbots or generative AI.
I’m not perfect. I still use technology like Meta and machine learning for things like auto-captioning or transcription in my business. The internet is making AI harder and harder to avoid, but it’s important for us all to be mindful and critical of how the tools we use impact us, our community, and our environment.
I don’t expect everyone to adhere to this standard. But I do invite and encourage you to be critical of these tools and consider their wider impacts.
What does this mean for how we work together?
I don’t consent to any part of my intellectual property being used to train AI or to any of my work being modified by AI tools. My contracts prohibit any concepts, proofs, or work that I share from being used with any AI tools for any purpose.
I don’t accept any AI-generated content or materials for any projects.
If you use AI tools as part of your ecosystem, that’s your choice. However, I don’t allow generative AI or chatbots to be used in my creative process.
This also extends to any onboarding documents and questionnaires. It’s important that the information you share with me is coming directly from you. That information is what I’ll be using to build your entire strategy, so it needs to include your specific context and nuance that an AI chatbot can’t provide.
I don’t accept AI-generated or AI-assisted creative feedback.
AI chatbots don’t have the necessary context to give helpful or relevant feedback when it comes to creative work and the strategy we’ve worked on together. Instead, it tries to tell you what it thinks you want to hear, which doesn’t offer me any real insights.
I don’t expect your feedback to be perfect! I much prefer your real and honest thoughts, even if it’s messy, even if it’s critical. All that matters to me is that it’s coming directly from you.
